Artist Statement — William Parks
I believe visual art works the same way a good song does: it invites you in with rhythm, emotion, and flow—but leaves room for your own meaning. My goal isn’t to tell viewers exactly what to feel, but to create images that spark curiosity, memory, and personal interpretation.
My work moves between two worlds.
The landscapes are my escape—quiet places where light, water, and open space offer a moment of peace. They’re rooted in the places I’ve lived and walked, especially the river, and they reflect the parts of life we long to return to: calm, clarity, and familiarity.
The abstract pieces, in contrast, face the things we often avoid. They twist together humor, tension, chaos, and symbolism. These paintings let me explore uncomfortable truths—identity, pressure, grief, and the madness of everyday life—through color and exaggeration. They feel like visual puzzles, each one an emotional riff where shapes play like instruments in a song.
Together, these two styles show the duality of my creative process: the need to escape and the need to confront. Whether it’s a quiet riverbank or a distorted character pushed to the edge, each piece is meant to invite you into its own rhythm and let you find your own story inside it.
